In January we went on a field trip to Oak Glen with the fourth grade. It was very informative and taught many 5th grade standards in science. We learned about trees, ponds, recycling and the scientific method, as well as went on a hike which reminded me how out of shape I’m in. Right now we are practicing the scientific method by building and shooting off our water bottle rockets. They are testing them with different pressure and different amounts of water. The kids love experimenting with this, and it’s good for them to work in their groups and practice team work. They will then put all of their data together in a chart on the computer during their computer class. In language we are writing a research paper on an American who has made a positive influence on our country. We are learning how to take notes, do an outline and a bibliography.
